SENATOR NORCROSS ANNOUNCES LEGISLATION TO REQUIRE WARNING LIGHTS ON SCHOOL BUSES

March 26, 2012

(TRENTON) – Following a rash of accidents involving school buses in recent months, Senator Norcross announced today that he is drafting legislation that requires every school bus in New Jersey to be fitted with a strobe light on the roof in order to make the vehicle more visible.

“This is another step to increase school bus visibility,” said Senator Norcross. “Given recent events, it is clear that we need to include more measures to ensure the safety of the children on board.”

There have been eight reported school bus crashes in New Jersey since mid-February. The most severe accident injured 17 children and killed an eleven-year-old girl.

“School buses are historically safe vehicles, but there is always room for improvement,” added Senator Norcross. “Any measure taken to reduce the possibility of an accident should be considered.”
